Carry On Luggage Meets Airport Transport – Guest Author Kate Hart

Luggage comes in all sizes, colours and patterns these days but generally luggage brands stick to the traditional purpose of luggage – to carry your personal items whilst on the move.  One would expect a good set of luggage to be lightweight, secure and easy to manoeuvre, whilst remaining stylish and tasteful.

But what happens when luggage gets a little too travel clever?

This happens…..luggage becomes transport!

Innovative inventor company Hammacher Schlemmer has invented The Only Scootercase. This alternative hand luggage converts into a scooter so you can transport yourself and your luggage through the airport and beyond in super quick time.  Here at Case Luggage HQ we’re wondering if travel insurance companies would payout upon an airport scooter related crash…we doubt it!

Maybe luggage like this is best kept for the kids; or the kid inside us all.  We’re uncertain if this new luggage innovation is likely to catch on with busy business travellers or holiday makers impatient to hit the hotel bar, but we can’t deny we do love some luggage fun. If you have seen any other great ideas, please get in touch!

If you’re not keen on ‘propelling’ yourself through the airport then why not opt for a piece of stylish Samsonite carry on luggage, Bric’s carry on luggage or Knomo hand luggage all with free UK delivery.

EU Maintains Liquid Ban on Flights–will Osama make a difference?

Last week the EU made a last minute u turn on attempting to allow EU passengers who were in transit to carry duty free drinks on to flights. So, if you had bought duty free in the States, then landed in Amsterdam with a connecting flight to Birmingham you could take Duty Free bought in the States on to the Birmingham flight.

However, many airports decided they were not ready for this or that it would create more chaos (including major hubs in London, Paris etc), so the EU had to make a very last minute U turn.

They have however stressed and maintained their statement of intent to eradicate this rule in totality by 2013, with new equipment being ready for detection. Many people on twitter yesterday were wandering whether Osama Bin Laden’s death would lead to this rule being relaxed sooner – we somehow doubt it. I am sure travellers worldwide will welcome a return to pre 9/11 day when make up and more could be take on board without issue – it will certainly lighten the load of many passengers check in luggage (or allow for a few more pair of shoes!).

In the meantime we sell Go travel bottles which look like being useful for at least couple more years.

The Very Latest Carry On Sizing For International Airlines

We have just updated the caseluggage.com Travel Desk with the very latest carry on guidelines for what we consider to be the most popular International airlines used from the United Kingdom. (If we have missed any out, please let us know and we can add them in).

Each airlines’ website has been individually visited, so we have not relied on any other organisations’ lists. Some airlines have better descriptions than others when it comes to guidelines online – but we publish this with the caveat that you should always check for yourself.

We hope the list helps you in making an informed decision as to what to buy – there are many different size requirements and weight requirements from all these airlines, although some patterns do emerge when you look at airlines from different continents.

In our next blog we will discuss what is available to take on to airlines such as Ryanair where the depth of case allowed is only 20cm.

If you have any tips for fellow travellers or stories about what you have or have not managed to get on board, please let us know.
