The Luggage Race for London 2012
The London 2012 are nearly upon us and we at caseluggage are very excited.
It’s a big year for Britain and the eyes of the world are on all of us. What a chance to show them why there’s a ‘Great’ in front of ‘Britain’. British Airways is extremely proud to be the official airline partner for the Olympic games this year.
The Olympic and Paralympic Games will bring all of the world’s top athletes to London and British Airways will be supporting them every jump, sprint and leap of the way. British Airways has produced a great video to promote their sponsorship of the games. The Case Race video can be seen below.
In the video their are some great looking suitcases from two excellent brands, Delsey & Rimowa.

Who’s Won What…Results from the caseluggage.com Awards
The contest is now over for the caseluggage.com awards, it was a hardly fought contest, and after two nerve-racking, grueling weeks of voting, the results are in! It would be cruel to all the brands nominated to further lengthen the process, so just below are the results! Congratulations to all the winners, and commiserations to all those who are not taking home a caseluggage.com award, there is always next year!
Best New Range Launch:
1) Alpha Bravo by TUMI (36%)
2) Vapor by TUMI (32%)
3) Salsa Air by RIMOWA (23%)
This was a closely fought contest between three great ranges, that attracted the greatest number of votes. At the start of the voting process it seemed as if the Vapor range was the obvious winner, but after some late voting the Alpha Bravo stole the top spot just before the count!
Best New Colour in a Range:
1) City – Vapor Produced by TUMI (35%)
2) Violet – Cosmolite Produced by SAMSONITE (30%)
3) Gold – Cosmolite Produced by SAMSONITE (20%)
Samsonite did extremely well in this category, giving merit to the wonderful Cosmolite range, but were just short on taking the Gold prize. Again, it was a close contest with the Violet Cosmolite looking certain to win but it seems that the same TUMI flurry in the last category struck again with the City print robbing Samsonite of the victory.
Best Leading Design Piece:
1) TUMI – Knox Backpack (35%)
.jpg&dim=350&fit=1)
2) BRICS – Thermoform Trolleys (29%)
3) RIMOWA – Salsa Air Cabin Case (24%)
Again, and possibly this was a theme of the caseluggage.com awards, TUMI won another award. However, out of all the categories this was the most closely fought, resulting in a situation where there were just two votes between 1st and 3rd. All three were deserving winners, however, as is the nature of competition there must always be winners and losers. Congratulation again to TUMI!
Best New Business Collection:
1) Wheeled Briefcases by TUMI (72%)

2) Bayswater by KNOMO (17%)
3) Touraine by LE TANNEUR (11%)
This was a walkover by TUMI, with their competitors not even coming close. Both Knomo and Le Tanneur will be disappointed with their performances however, at times one must simply recognize the great work done by TUMI in their business collection and just admire it.
Best Supporting Accessory:
1) NIO Security Tag by NIO (38%)
2) iPad Cover by KNOMO (24%)
3) Riley Wash Kit by TUMI (19%)
TUMI only just missed out and would have taken all 5 awards if it weren’t for the genius design and originality of the NIO Security Tag. The NIO took an early lead in the voting and then never looked back, comfortably winning by 14%. We at CASE are very excited about this product and think it has a very bright future, well done NIO!
————————————————————————————————————————
And thus, there comes the end to the 2011 caseluggage.com Awards. A big congratulations to all those who took home awards and better luck next year to those who just missed out. Thanks must also be paid to all those who voted in the awards, we all hope your favourites won! However, sadly, with good news always comes bad and today Hollywood lost one of it’s most famous stars with the sad passing of on and off screen legend Elizabeth Taylor, who died after a long battle against illness. She will always be remembered for her double Oscar winning perfomances and her parts in such films as Cleopatra with ex husband Richard Burton.

It’s That Time of the Year…The Caseluggage.com Academy Awards.
The King’s Speech reigned supreme at last Sunday’s Oscars, with the British Film picking up a massive 4 Oscars. However, the Awards season is not quite over yet, as the last major event of the calendar is still to come. I am of course referring to the CASE Academy Awards, where we at CASE recognize all the amazing achievements made by particular brands and pieces of luggage throughout the past year.
Below is a list of the categories and a short list for the winners of these awards. Please feel free to comment on this blog piece with your suggestions for who should win what. Each nominee is linked to their product page, so have a look and decide for yourselves! Votes will also be taken throughout all the CASE stores and the awards will be announced on the CASE blog shortly, so make sure to check!

Origami Suitcase–A new concept in space saving travel

So, as you might expect from luggage retailers we spend a lot of time wondering what the next great invention will be, when it comes to luggage. We have seen washbags on wheels, trolley cases that turn in to tables for your laptops, a battery powered suitcase that is so heavy you would never be able to put anything in. We have also seen plenty of attempts at fold flat luggage, to help with storage when not travelling. Tumi, were one of the first to do this nearly 20 years ago with their first core range cases. Designboom and Selectism both reported on this new concept from naoki kawamoto – the orishiki suitcase. Based on the principles of origami, the case – which is on wheels, folds completely flat for flexibility and compactibility. Yoiu literally hang it up and fold it flat or together.

Overall practicality? – not sure it will be everyone’s cup of tea, but from a luggage industry point of view, at least its a piece of interesting design, that can start a conversation. Not sure it will be available at caseluggage.com unless the will of the people dictates. In the meantime , the closest look comes from Delsey and the Karat range. The CEO of Delsey was formerly at Ikea so we always thought he would come up with some flat pack luggage!

Any more ideas, existing or otherwise for great luggage pieces. We are still waiting for the luggage that follows you round the airport without you wheeling, and maybe a piece that hovers ever so slightly when you stick it on the scales at the airport desk, so you sneak a few extra kilos…
A Case Study by Case Luggage
The mission of Case Luggage both in store and online is to present to our customers the finest luggage and business pieces from around the globe. We look to offer a considered and succinct choice of brands and ranges that cover a variety of price points as well as uses – intelligent choice rather than bewildering and confusing mass of product. Below we set out some of our most popular brands and ranges for our customers.
Tumi is widely considered to be the best in class for well engineered, functional luggage and business pieces. The Alpha Travel Ranges feature the best soft sided luggage pieces for both check in and carry on. The 22021 Continental Carry On was designed specifically to meet British Airways and many other European based international carrier criteria for carry on suitcases. It has fast become our most successful selling carry on at £595. Whilst the Alpha Travel range is the core of Tumi’s business, new additions including Hard Sided Vapor Luggage and Alpha Bravo - a younger, more contemporary travel collection, have both had fantastic launches this year.
Brics has been a favourite of Case customers for many many years. It is the epitome of Affordable Luxury from a truly Italian label. The Rodeo Life collection is their core travel range, and it exudes styles and purpose with a mix of suede effect brushed cotton, leather trim detailing and fantastic use of hardware. This is a true timeless classic collection that adds style and panache to any trip. The best selling piece is the 202 holdall selling at £195. They have just redesigned their collection of trolley cases, and when these hit the shelves (and online) in November, we expect them to fly out.
For most people around the world, Samsonite is the first brand name most people think of when you mention luggage. Having just celebrated their 100 year anniversary, this is a travel goods company steeped in tradition of making and designing fine travel pieces. They have always been renowned for having a best selling hard sided travel collection, and today is no different as Cosmolite has been a roaring success for them. An immediately iconic design and exclusive use of a polycarbonate material called Curv, this collection of trolley cases ranging from £229 to £315 are ideal for all forms of travel – business, holiday, cruises and more.
We have covered the £200 plus market, but for those who travel less frequently but still want to travel in style, Delsey have been making great lightweight travel ranges for many years. The Fibre Lite range is it’s hero range of featherweight luggage. A memory shape fibre glass construction allows the case to be strong as well as lightweight. This is a nicely designed range – both externally and internally and is ideal for holiday travel. Trolley cases range from £139 to £159.
That gives you a taste of what we have available in store and online. There is plenty more to explore and see, and we of course always want to hear what you think about all manners of luggage and bags.
A More Casual Approach To Travel
The style of luggage you travel with should say a lot about you, just as your clothes, shoes, handbags and business cases. With summer holidays coming to an end, business travel is firmly back on the agenda as well as some big life change trips of adventure and discovery.
For those free spirited travellers, whether on business or adventure trips there is a fine array of new more casual styled ranges to choose from.
Can you travel business with a more casual styled suitcase. Well to a point you may argue it depends on the business, but when the business travellers brand of choice comes out with a new range like Alpha Bravo then a more casual approach to business travel is open to everyone.
Delsey have been market leaders in securing the casual look for the mainstream. Their new range Cross Trip is a culmination of 10 years of producing great casually styles luggage pieces that function so well and make the traveller feel great. Cross Trip’s outdoor spirit is paired with robustness and practicality that instantly captivate adventure travel buffs seeking sleek sophisticated design.
This collection masters the spirit of adventure and offers an exceptional level of protection. Clever storage compartments, including one with mesh ventilation specifically for shoes, highlight this line’s exceptional organisation.
Eagle Creek originated as an Outdoors Brand and have applied their brand’s DNA to a great range of lightweight luggage styles. The Cloudstream range is perfect for those travelers transitioning from backpacking to holiday or business travel. You don’t want to lose your spirit of adventure but time has moved on – this is the collection for you. A collection of wheeled packing cases and duffles with great added extras including reflective strips – if you still fancy a spot of hiking or hill walking, exterior pockets for laundry, compression straps to help pack in more gear, and integration with Eagle Creek’s Pack It System of organised travelling.
Tumi have redefined a new breed of 21st Century Digital Age executive who craves the functionality and performance of Tumi, but with a slightly more casual edge to their usual Core offering. Alpha Bravo now covers all the bases, with the launch of Wheeled Packing Case and Duffles to sit alongside the day bags , backpacks, and holdalls from last season. Contemporary in design and attitude, ballistic nylon is applied in a softer, less structured manner and enhanced with antique pewter hardware and leather detailing.
Overall, a great selection of casual travel pieces whatever travelling you have coming up in the near future.
