Lulu’s Dali-ghtful Lips!
Lulu Guinness, who is famous for her witty, exquisite handbags and accessories, is taking the celebrity world by storm with her iconic lip clutch bags, that many liken to Salvador Dali’s striking "The Mae West Lips Sofa" of 1937.
Dali, who shocked the world with his wonderful surrealist masterpieces, can in many ways be likened to the British fashion designer as she too has earned herself a reputation of creating unique works of art in the form of fashion. Since launching her company in 1989, Guinness has gained an OBE, opened stores worldwide in London, New York and Tokyo and has become a favourite with numerous celebrities including Dita von Teese, Helena Bonham Carter, Katy Perry, Florence Welch, Christina Aguilera, Rachel Weisz, Agyness Deyn, and Alexa Chung.
If celebrity fans weren’t enough, Lulu’s pieces are now being snapped up by museums! Described as “tomorrow’s treasures”, her work has become permanent fixtures in many museums including the Victoria and Albert Museum London. There have also been two Sotheby’s exhibitions showing her collections.
Lulu’s work definitely represents her strong personal style and her original ideas are one of the reasons why she is so popular with so many. Her retro glamour bags would stand out and appear striking in any situation and it is therefore no surprise that so many celebrities choose her bags when stepping out on to the red carpet, in front of the flashing paparazzi.
Perhaps what is most astounding of all, is that Guinness actually never partook in any formal design training, apart from a year’s foundation course at an art school and that it is simply her passion for fashion that has deservedly brought her so much success. Her story of hard work and determination can be an inspiration to any one wanting to succeed in any way of life.
Here at Case, we are certainly fans of Lulu’s work and due to this you can be sure to find her infamous lip clutch bags and many other pieces at our branches in Guildford (handbags), Bluewater and Harvey Nichols Leeds, and with news that Lulu is currently in the process of designing luggage we are all (and you should be too!) very excited to see what will be coming out…watch this space!
