"When approached by Fujifilm to produce a bespoke limited-edition case for the X-Pro1, exclusively for Harrods, we were very excited," said Gary Bott, creative director at Globe-Trotter.

"The combination of a traditional suitcase with the X-Pro1 camera, a piece of modern technology at its finest, is something new and exciting for our heritage brand. As well as this, Harrods is one of our oldest customers, and it is where Queen Elizabeth II purchased her Globe-Trotter suitcases for her honeymoon, so it is always a pleasure to work with them."

Mary Katrantzou – Longchamp Collection

For the Spring 2012 season, Longchamp has partnered up with Mary Katrantzou, the winner of the Emerging Talent Awards at last year’s British Fashion Awards. The resulting design is a distinctly spectacular line. The fantastic range is the fruit of a successful collaboration.

All those familiar with Mary Katrantzou’s creations will identify without any doubt her artistic signature on these bags. The confection from digital images is the seal that marks her originality.

Working on this season’s theme, Mary Katrantzou has explored what happens when East meets West.

These stunning pieces will be available in the Harrods luggage department from the end of this week.

After the break–back to business

Well, after what seemed an endless supply of short weeks, London seems to be getting itself back to business, and I am sure the rest of the country is as well. A 5 minute car journey took half an hour this morning and then I had to wait for 4 Victoria Line trains before one had enough space to get on to.

And whilst this is all annoying, it is also encouraging to see the country getting back to business. Whilst waiting on the platform, I spotted plenty of people who looked like they could do with a new business case – so what would I suggest to see you through these busy months and in to the second half of the year.

There are so many choices nowadays – wheeled business cases, traditional leather briefs or attaché cases, nylon cases that can house laptops, backpacks, messengers – the list is endless.

Tumi have updated their wheeled business collection  – lightening the load where possible, adding in extra pockets for IPADs etc., and introducing a new vertical briefcase.

The daily wheeled brief (£495) is a lighter version wheeled business case with a single handle, designed to fit under almost all airline seats. For a new business case experience, try the vertical tall wheeled international brief (£665). Great organisation, perfect for overnight trips as you could fit some clothing and shoes, and easier access to papers by being vertical.

Knomo are fast becoming a leading light in Men’s contemporary business cases and messenger bags, having already grabbed a large slice of the women’s business case market. The Jackson is a contemporary take on a more traditional briefcase (£245), whilst Kobe has become a best selling 10” laptop messenger bag, and is now available in tan (below) as well as black and brown. You can see the whole collection here.

Le Tanneur are a French leather company who have a good selection of more contemporary but also traditional shaped pieces. The ‘doctors’ bag seems to be seeing a resurgence in popularity and this one from  Le Tanneur is particularly nice with triple gusset and combination lock. (£350)

So, plenty to choose from online but we also have various brands and styles that are  in store, but not online. Mulberry briefcases and Mont Blanc briefcases are both particularly popular, and in our Harrods Travel Goods concession we have what is generally perceived to be the best collection of traditional attaché cases in the world. Mostly hand made in Italy, in a variety of leather skins there are some really beautiful pieces that are worth seeking out for that extra special piece.

HENK: Super luggage or just super-priced?

In the aftermath of the deadline-day mega spending of the Football Transfer Window, CASE has decided to examine whether a heavy price tag is always a sign of better quality.  Many have spoken out about the out of this world spending by Roman Abramovich and John Henry on January 31st, in spending over 140 million pounds on just four players.

Now fortunately, these type of prices are not prevalent in the luggage world. However, when it comes to the upper echelons of luxurious luggage, Dutch company HENK certainly comes to mind. With items ranging from £28,000 up to some at £55,000, HENK luggage is definitely a must have for the super-wealthy – both chairman and player alike .

If Andy Carroll is worth 35 million, is HENK worth in excess of £28,000? Well, to be fair to the Dutch company, it can boast some impressive features such as a carbon fiber shell which provides great protection and strength, as well as over 500 individually engineered components, including retractable titanium wheels. HENK offers true unique pieces of luggage with sleek style and incredible convenience. .

In all, can one truly say a piece of luggage is worth £55,000…probably not. However, what one can guarantee is that in buying a HENK piece, you will be purchasing an exclusive item that can indeed boast some impressive hand built features that go some way to justify its high price tag. Add to this the fact that in owning HENK luggage, you will be one of a limited few who own these pieces, and there is the explanation to the growing popularity of this Dutch company.

The HENK collection currently consists of the Travelfriend and some briefcases, both of which can be found in our luggage department at Harrods
