Paul Smith Steamer Trunk Luggage at Harrods

Whilst we cannot sell these online, we do love this latest collection from Paul Smith, which is available from our luggage department in Harrods.

The range is inspired by the trunks carried on the cruisers of olde in the Grand Old Days of luxury travel. Modern twists include a super lightweight polycarbonate hybrid shell, and wheels (didn’t have them in the ‘good ol’ days!).

The cases are available in classic colours of matt black, British Racing Green and Navaho Blue. Each case is beautifully finished with a vintage striped leather tab and handle.

If you want a dash of fashionable design for your new hardwearing set of suitcases, this is certainly a good place to start.

Prices start at £375.

The Rise of Polycarbonate

In terms of recent luggage trends, the move to polycarbonate for hard sided luggage has had a major effect. First used by Rimowa it has now become the industry standard. Strength, relative lightweight and flexibility are all fantastic components of the material. There are of course many versions and we always endeavour to bring you the best examples from around the globe. The current brand leader remains Rimowa with their Salsa series of cases, but Samsonites Cosmolite has had a major impact and Tumi’s Vapor is also selling well (see previous post). The common factor with all 3 brands is that they have produced ranges which have almost instant iconic appeal as well as being engineered to the highest of standards.
