The last thing you want is to have to start juggling the contents of your bags or even incur a charge because your cabin luggage is too big or too heavy.
Our guide below will outline the current airline hand luggage specifications. The fully comprehensive list includes 22 airlines, so no matter where you’re off to, we will make sure you leave for your flight with the confidence that you have packed accordingly. Before you continue, remember all luggage sizes include handles and wheels.

The cabin luggage policy on Ryanair has changed! As of the 1st November 2018, you are only entitled to take one small personal bag on board. The bag must be able to fit under the seat in front of you. You can then purchase more allowance as required.
The maximum size for the personal bag is 40 x 20 x 25cm.
If you take 2 bags to the gate or your bag is too big, Ryanair can fine you £25.
Their Priority & 2 Cabin Bags add-on is from an additional £6. It gives you the benefit of the priority queue and allows you to bring 2 cabin bags; 1 small personal bag, as above and one standard cabin bag which can be stored in the overhead locker.
The maximum size for the standard cabin bag is 55 x 40 x 20cm, with a maximum weight of 10kg.
You can take one cabin bag per person on board an easyJet flight. There’s no weight limit to the easyJet cabin luggage size allowance, however, the clause is that you are able to lift it into the overhead locker yourself.
The maximum size is 56 x 45 x 25cm.
It is worth noting that easyJet has limited space for cabin bags, they can only fit up to 70 cabin bags. Once these spaces have been filled, cabin bags will be put into the hold and can be collected from the baggage carousel on arrival in the terminal.
You are entitled to take two bags into the cabin with FlyBe. One standard cabin bag and one small personal bag that will fit under the seat in front of you.
The maximum size for the standard cabin bag is 55 x 35 x 20cm
There is a maximum weight of 10kg for your cabin bags; this is a combined weight of your cabin baggage and smaller personal item.
British Airways allow passengers to take 2 bags onboard; 1 handbag or laptop sized bag and one standard cabin bag. They have two size specifications, one for adults, young adults and children and another to allow infants to have their own allowance for items required during the flight. These sizes are detailed below:
The maximum size for adults, young adults, and children are:
1 handbag or laptop bag up to 40 x 30 x 15cm with a maximum weight of 23kg
1 additional cabin bag up to 56 x 45 x 25cm with a maximum weight of 23kg
The maximum size for infants (under 2) is:
1 cabin bag up to 56 x 45 x 25cm with a maximum weight of 23kg
If your hand luggage is bigger than the specified size or weight, or you arrive with more hand luggage bags than the two mentioned above, you will need to check it in as hold luggage. This will then count towards your checked-in luggage allowance.
The information below is the standard cabin bag sizes for Emirates. They do however have a baggage allowance calculator, so you can check exactly what cabin baggage you are allowed for each individual flight, as Emirates luggage allowances can vary depending on your route, class of travel or your Emirates Skywards membership.
First Class and Business Class customers are permitted two pieces of carry-on baggage: one briefcase plus either one handbag or one garment bag. The briefcase may not exceed 45 x 35 x 20cm, the handbag may not exceed 55 x 38 x 20cm and the garment bag can be no more than 20cm thick when folded.
The weight of each piece must not exceed 7kg.
Economy Class customers are permitted one piece of carry-on baggage that should not exceed 55 x 38 x 20cm and must weigh no more than 7kg.
Emirates also allow you to bring duty-free purchases such as spirits, cigarettes, and perfume in reasonable quantities for all service classes.
The hand luggage allowance for Qatar Airways is dependant on which class you are travelling.
First Class and Business Class customers are allowed to carry two pieces of baggage on board. These two pieces cannot exceed a total weight of 15kg.
Economy Class customers are allowed to carry one piece of baggage, this cannot exceed 7kg.
The maximum size for each piece of hand baggage is 50 x 37 x 25cm.
Laptops and laptop bags are classed as one of the pieces of your hand baggage allowance.
The cabin bag allowance for KLM is defined by which class you are travelling.
