Joules Backpacks & Rucksacks: Print-Led Everyday Carry

Joules backpacks bring the brand's print-led aesthetic to functional everyday carry, rucksacks built from canvas and technical fabric printed with the botanicals and stripes the brand is known for. Choosing a Joules backpack over a plain, unbranded alternative is largely a decision about wanting that recognisable personality in an otherwise routine daily item, one of the few genuinely low-cost ways to make a daily commute feel a little less monotonous. That combination of recognisable print and genuine everyday function is part of why Joules backpacks work equally well for a school run, a commute, or a weekend away, without needing to own a separate bag for each context. Every backpack here features organised internal pockets and padded carry straps, so the personality doesn't come at the expense of genuine daily practicality. Padded straps matter more than they might seem for anyone carrying a backpack for a full commute, since an unpadded strap digging into a shoulder over a twenty or thirty minute walk becomes a genuine discomfort rather than a minor annoyance. That combination of print-led design and genuine daily practicality is exactly what distinguishes Joules from brands that treat pattern as the whole product, rather than one part of a backpack that also needs to carry a laptop and lunch comfortably five days a week.

Epwell: The Signature Print Range

The Epwell range spans both Small and Large Backpack sizes, both backed by a five year warranty and built with the same organised pocket layout throughout. That shared pocket layout across both sizes means upgrading from Small to Large, or vice versa, doesn't involve relearning how the bag is organised, a small but genuinely useful consistency for anyone who's used one size and is considering the other. It's the most classically Joules option in this collection, the print and construction most people picture when they think of the brand's backpack range, and the five year warranty gives genuine confidence for daily use over several years. That warranty is worth factoring into any price comparison against cheaper unbranded backpacks, since five years of cover against manufacturing defects represents genuine value on a bag used daily rather than occasionally.

Coast Softside: A More Travel-Focused Option

The Coast Softside range brings a slightly more travel-oriented design into backpack form, spanning a Small size, a standard size, and a larger 45cm option, all cabin-sized and built with zip pocket organisation throughout. That cabin sizing across every option in the range means the whole Coast Softside backpack line doubles as hand luggage on its own, worth remembering if you're travelling light and want to avoid checking a bag entirely. It suits anyone who wants a backpack that flexes between daily commuting and occasional travel use, rather than one built purely around a desk-to-home routine. That flexibility also extends to how the bag looks day to day, since the Coast Softside print sits comfortably in both a commuting context and a more overtly holiday setting, without looking out of place in either. That flexibility matters most for anyone whose work occasionally involves travel, since it avoids needing to own two separate backpacks, one for the daily commute and a second reserved purely for trips away.

Choosing The Right Joules Backpack

A few questions worth asking:

1. Daily commute or occasional travel? Epwell suits a purely everyday routine, while Coast Softside's cabin sizing flexes better into travel use too.
2. How much do you need to carry? Epwell's Large size and Coast Softside's 45cm option both suit heavier daily loads better than the smaller sizes in each range.
3. Warranty matters to you? Epwell's five year warranty gives genuine long-term confidence for daily use.
4. Print preference. Epwell leans into Joules' classic floral styling, while Coast Softside takes a more coastal, travel-oriented look.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the warranty on Joules backpacks?

The Epwell range carries a five year warranty, giving genuine confidence for daily use over several years.

Are Joules backpacks suitable for travel, or just daily use?

The Coast Softside range is built with cabin sizing specifically in mind, making it a genuinely flexible option for both daily commuting and travel.

What sizes are available?

Epwell spans Small and Large sizes, while Coast Softside covers Small, standard, and a larger 45cm option. That range of sizes across two distinct style families gives a genuinely wide choice within a single brand, rare for a print-led luggage label that could easily have settled for one silhouette. Trying both in person where possible is worth doing if you're between sizes, since the practical difference between Small and Large in either range is more noticeable once a laptop or folder is actually inside than the stated dimensions alone tend to suggest.
