Lock Guide

All Case suitcases are fitted with TSA approved combination locks.

These allow airport security to inspect your suitcase if required, without forcing the lock or causing damage.

While TSA locks can look slightly different depending on the brand, they all work in a similar way.

This guide explains how TSA locks work, how to open and reset them, and where to find brand specific instructions if needed.

Title

What is a TSA Lock

A TSA lock keeps your belongings secure while still allowing airport security to inspect your suitcase if required.

Security authorities can unlock and relock the case using a master key without damaging the lock.

This helps prevent forced entry or broken locks during routine security checks.

If you are unsure whether your suitcase has a TSA lock, look for the red diamond logo. This confirms the lock is approved by the Transportation Security Administration.

Title

Where is the Key

Your TSA lock does not come with a key.

Although you may see a keyhole, this is not for customer use.

The key is held only by airport security authorities worldwide, allowing them to inspect luggage without damage.

Title

How to Identify Your Suitcase Lock

Different suitcases use slightly different TSA lock layouts. Before following the steps below, take a quick look at your lock.

Most TSA locks include:

  • Three number dials
  • A release button or slider
  • A small reset pinhole
  • The red TSA diamond logo

Tip from Case: If your lock has a pinhole, it usually requires a pen to reset the code. If there is no pinhole, the lock slider normally acts as the reset mechanism.

This improves user success rate dramatically.

How to Open the Lock: A Step-by-Step Guide

Most suitcase locks are preset to the factory code 0 0 0.

Follow these steps to open the lock for the first time.

Set the dials to 0 0 0

Locate the TSA lock button. It may look like a keyhole but functions as a release button

Slide or press the button towards the dials

The zipper pulls should release and the suitcase will open

If your case does not open, double check the dials are correctly aligned to 0 0 0.

How to Reset Your Combination

Changing the combination allows you to secure your suitcase with a personal code.

Follow these steps to reset your lock.

Ensure the lock is open and

set to 0 0 0.

This is the default code when you receive the case.

Locate the reset mechanism

If your lock has a small pinpoint button, press it in with a pen. If not, press and hold the button you use to open the suitcase towards the dials.

Whilst the pinpoint button is held down, rotate the dials to your desired three-digit code.

If you used a pinpoint button, simply release the button you were holding. Your new combination is now set!

Important: Always set your combination with the zip pulls not inserted into the lock. Setting the code while the case is locked can prevent it from reopening.

Case insight: Most lock issues we see happen when travellers reset the code with the zips engaged. Always leave the zips free while changing your combination.

Locked Out of Your Suitcase

If you forget your lock combination, there are a few possible solutions.

You can try starting from 0 0 0 and slowly work through each combination until the lock opens.

Sometimes the correct combination may be slightly misaligned on the dials, so turning the numbers slowly can help.

If the lock cannot be opened, the suitcase may need to be taken to an authorised repair centre so they can safely reset or replace the lock.

Case can assist with arranging this if needed.

Any repair charges from the brand’s authorised repair centre are the responsibility of the customer.

For more details, please refer to our Repairs & Warranty page.
